Again its rainy season in Tamil Nadu, and like always, most of the areas in Chennai are in flood. The seasonal rain in Chennai had started this November and for the past few days the weather is crazy, its raining cats and dogs. The non-stop, continuous rain led to water stagnation in low lying areas like Velachery, Madipakkam, Adambakkam, Puzhuthivakkam. I am staying in Madipakkam Srinivasa Nagar and my place is a mess right now. I've taken some pics of my place and posted below. The MRTS works from Velachery - St.Thomas Mount had been affected for the past few days due to rain. And the water passage along the MRTS road is the main source for water to move. Sinivasa nagar, Ram Nagar, in Madipakkam are now under trouble. If the rain continues for another few days, there is a sure chance of flood entering into houses in Velachery and Madipakkam area.

Hey thanks for the enlightening pictures.. now I work in Ascendas, and looking to move my family nearby.. Madipakkam seems ideal with good 2 bedroom flats going for rent under 7000 rupees.. Can you please tell me which are the parts of madipakkam that don't get affected much by floods, have good roads and water supply? Heard sadasivam nagar is a safe bet! Would really appreciate your help! Thanks...
Hi, im Vijay, U've posted a comment in my blog regarding rain in madipakkam. Ram Ngar and Srinivasa Nagar are the places that will be affected by rain usually. But Sadasiva Nagar or Balaiya Garden are always safe during rainy season. So if you are choosing a flat in Sadasiva Nagar then sure Rain or Flood wouldn't be a problem.
Hey Vijay!
Thanks so much! :) Hope yours is not an own house in Srinivasa nagar.. else you are stuck!
One last question.. how is the water supply and power supply in these areas?
Is it decent to pay 6000 as rent for a 2-bedroom flat? or too much..
Thanks so much!
Shreedhar.
Hi Shreedhar,
Its my own house, and the flood and water logging problem will be only once in a year (3-4 days) apart from that Srinivasa Nagar is fine, since the place is near railway station the land value is high.
And to answer your question, Water supply., we order for a load(11,000liters) of water twice every 3 months, and we store it in sump,. And this water can be used for house hold usage. Drinking water had to bought separately in cans. Power supply is not a problem,(rare power cuts). 6000Rs for 2 bedroom flat is a reasonable price in my opinion.
Hi,
I'm looking to move to Kubera Nagar / Mahalakshmi Nagar in Madipakkam area.
Can you tell me whether these places are also affected by rain?
Thanks,
Harini
hi
After searching for houses for past one month , I located one better house at madipakkam ramnagar and I am warned of the water logging problem..How frequent is the logging at ramnagar?
Is it a bad decision to move in ?
Do u foresee any government actions to address the loggin issue ,if so whn?
Please reply..
To All,
Hi guys, I live in Madipakkam and this is my blog. Sorry for delayed reply. I have been living in Madipakkam from 2000. Every year during rainy season, places in Madipakkam such as Ram Nagar, Adambakkam, Srinivasa Nagar, and other places near to Velachery are affected badly. Also water stagnation on low lying places in madipakkam is common. The worst thing is that during rain in 2008, 2007, and 2006 rain water entered into many houses in the above mentioned places.
Conclusion: Apart from rainy season. i.e, apart from a couple of months in a year, the place is a good place to live.

Hi All,
Thanks for the valuable information.
I am looking for 2 BHK in Kubren nagar, near to perumal kovil.
Is it a good location? any water logging problem, ground water problem?
Thanks,
Siva
We own a plot in Ramnagar north extension in Madipakkam (from 1988!)We have been visiting regularly to see the water logging problem. With the improvement that we have been witnessing, we are now building our house there. If I compare, say Adyar vs Madipakkam on any rainy day, roads in Adyar are more flooded than Madipakkam! However not all roads have been laid there. Also sewage and water supply lines are yet to be completed. Hope soon all issues get solved, as now Madipakkam is merged with corporation! (good or bad?)
